Area of Expertise: Empathy & Storytelling, Ideation & Innovation, Prototyping, Testing & Iteration Justin is the Head of Development at Obsidian Entertainment. While originally wanting to pursue a career as a professor of astrophysics, he soon discovered that his passion for video games was too strong and he changed degrees and went into computer science. Soon after he went from assembling indie development teams and publishing games through Microsoft’s ID@Xbox initiative, to working on games at studios like Big Red Button, inXile, and Blizzard before landing at Obsidian Entertainment. Since joining Obsidian Entertainment, Justin has gone from Production Assistant, to Lead Producer, to Head of Development for the Studio, where he now works with all of the development teams to bring world class role-playing games to players. His position has offered him to not only steer the development of great games, but he has actively worked to foster a great company culture with a willingness to try new methods and leadership techniques. Along with his job at Obsidian, Justin is also a professor at the University of Irvine where he teaches a course on Business in Games; aiming to embolden a new generation of leaders and studio heads in the video game space by covering the business side of game development. He was recently featured on Forbes '30 under 30' in the gaming category. In his spare time, he fosters kittens with his wife, Katherine. |
