Dr. James Rhee earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and his master’s degree from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. He earned his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and completed the University of Chicago Emergency Medicine Residency Program, where he served as Residency Research Chief. During his final year of residency, Dr. Rhee was recognized for his research when he was honored with the Resident Research Award. He pursued specialty training in medical toxicology at the Toxikon Consortium at Cook County Hospital, Chicago.
Dr. Rhee returned to the University of Chicago as a faculty member in 2006, where he founded the University of Chicago Medical Toxicology Service and served as its director.
Dr. Rhee is an accomplished scholar who has given numerous scientific presentations at national meetings, written several papers for publication, produced chapters and monographs in authoritative textbooks, and engaged many emergency medicine residents in meaningful scholarship. He is a gifted teacher who received the highest award for teaching given by emergency medicine residents at the University of Chicago during his early years as a faculty member.
In 2009, Dr. Rhee joined the faculty at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California, where he served as a medical educator, researcher, emergency physician, and medical toxicologist. Additionally, he served as Associate Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Loma Linda University Medical Center, earning a from residents.
Dr. Rhee has since transitioned into emergency department management roles and has served as medical director at several hospitals.
In 2017, Dr. Rhee was recognized as the Emergency Medicine Physician of the Year by Envision Physician Services, a multispecialty national medical group, and healthcare management company.
Currently, he serves as a Regional Medical Director for Envision Physician Services.
